I have to admit, there was a hint of apprehension as I pulled up to AFC Wulfrunians last night…
For over two years, I’ve been hosting Biz n Bevs events bringing together a community of local business people. But this was my first venture outside Bromsgrove or Redditch.
As I climbing the stairs to the hospitality suite, I’m thinking to myself;
‘How big is this room going to be?’
‘How awkward will it be if only 10 people show up?!’ 😬
As I open the door and see the smiling faces of Danny and Danielle Cashmore welcoming me in, along with others from the BDLT team, who were sponsoring the event. I was now excited, but also more fearful, that people wouldn’t come, and I’d I be letting them down. Especially having seen the effort they had gone to in preparing the space, food and refreshments!
The room is good size and is extremely impressive for an a local football club, with striking high back blue leather seats along the room, accented by white marble tables and brown leather lounge chairs and a neat bar nestled in the corner. Topped only by the view out onto the lush green football pitch below.
‘Definitely going to need more than 10 to make decent night of it in here’ I thought. 🫣🤯
6.00pm comes round. The start of the event.
In walks Glen McCulloch, a face to brighten any room or situation, quickly followed by Philip Edwards flanked by another 2 attendees. Phew 😅
Danielle, plays an excellent host, greeting each of them and handing over a pink raffle ticket as way of a free drink token. Chats starts to flow, and more faces pour in, as does the beer, coffees and teas. 🍺 ☕️
As more people arrive, I recognise a few familiar faces and try to introduce myself to new ones. Feeling more relaxed as the room fills, I get into the bit I love the most; people’s stories, learning about their businesses, and figuring out how I can help them connect and grow.
By the time I stood up to thank everyone for coming and introduce our hosts, I wasn’t just calm—I was grateful. Grateful to see 25-30 people chatting, laughing, and even taking part guessing famous Wolves picture quiz.
I loved hearing Danielle and Danny sharing insights about their work, their community, and a hilarious round of “beverage fuelled stories” that kept everyone entertained! 🥴😂
Back to it, and 8pm soon flew around, the room still buzzing with conversation, only pausing to enjoy the delicious cobs, snacks and finishing off their drinks.
But as the evening drew to a close, feeling pleased it’s gone well and more importantly that those in attendance seemed to have had an enjoyable evening.
All had gone as well if not better than I had hoped.
Even more pleasing that Danny and Danielle seemed enthusiastic to do another one in the new year!
Thanks to everyone who attended, and thank you for reading 😊
Until the next Biz n Bevs on November 12th (back in Bromsgrove),
Cheers 🍻
